Elixir Music House is a everybody's home away from home, where creativity, belonging and community become culture.
Since 2011, Elixir has evolved from a jazz bar into a thriving grassroots home for original music, poetry, comedy, cabaret, markets, film and more. Across two levels, Elixir and the Cairns Melting Pot connect local and touring artists with audiences, collaborators and new possibilities.

ProNoiz brings recording, live sound, music-video production and intimate filmed concert opportunities into the growing ecosystem at 92 Abbott Street.
After capturing the live footage across all ten days of Voices of Kin, Pauly P and ProNoiz are becoming part of the building’s next chapter - helping artists record, perform, collaborate and share their work beyond Far North Queensland.

Sky Rixon is developing a new non-profit organisation as a national model for securing grassroots venues through community ownership, non-profit/ charitable governance, cultural stewardship and long-term cultural leases.
Grassroots venues are not simply entertainment businesses. They are essential cultural and social infrastructure: places where artists begin, audiences connect, communities gather and regional economies benefit from creative activity.

A National Cultural Infrastructure Project
Australia is facing a growing crisis in the loss of grassroots live music venues and cultural spaces. More than 1,300 live music venues were lost between COVID-19 and 2023, with a further 11 closures continuing across the Australia this year already. Our venues are far more than entertainment businesses; they are essential cultural and social infrastructure that support artists, strengthen communities, foster belonging, and contribute to the cultural identity and economic vitality of the places they serve.
Sky is about to embark on work to develop the framework for long-term protection of grassroots music venues through community ownership, non-profit governance, and sustainable cultural infrastructure models.
We will protect the spaces where creativity, belonging, and community become culture.
The vision begins at 92 Abbott Street - a founding demonstration of how a much-loved regional venue can be protected for future generations while creating a model that can travel nationally. The protection of each venue becomes the confirmation for a successful national solution.

NEWS: Sky {Co-owner of Elixir} and 3 other wonderful women formed 4 Hearts Creative Collective not too long ago, a new Non-Profit organisation. With this entity we started the amazing working to secure Elixir’s future at 92 Abbott St as a permanent community arts space. Thanks to our beautiful little community, we've raised a MASSIVE $33,100 so far!
We have however hit pause for a moment due to working on something in the background that will be more involving community, long term cultural leases and giving back......
